Not only did the stars of Sinners take home several awards at the Oscars, but they also had the most cultured performance of the night.
On Sunday night, March 15, the 98th Academy Awards went down at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. During the show, the cast of Sinners invaded the stage to perform the Oscar-nominated hit "I Lied To You" with assistance from some iconic acts. Raphael Saadiq opened the performance with a riveting guitar solo before Miles Caton took over and crooned the stand-out track. Caton was joined by his castmates Buddy Guy, Lil Jun Lil, and Jayme Lawson as they brought the juke joint to the Oscars stage.
The reenactment of Caton's infamous scene in Sinners included contributions from other musicians like Mississippi-based guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, blues guitarist Eric Gales, veteran musician Bobby Rush, country artist Shaboozey, singer Alice Smith, Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard, and ballet dancer Misty Copeland. Throughout the performance, elements of all the music, dances, and cultures that inspired the film were represented. Even the film's vampires, Jack O’Connell, Lola Kirke, and Peter Dreimanis, pulled up to the performance.
Sinners was the most nominated film of the 2026 Academy Awards. Michael B. Jordan walked away with his first-ever Best Actor award, while the film's director, Ryan Coogler, accepted the award for Best Original Screenplay. The film also won Best Cinematography and Best Original Score. See the full list of winners here.
