Thundercat is finally ready to drop his long-awaited album.
On Thursday, January 29, the singer-songwriter announced the plans for his fifth studio album, Distracted. According to a press release, Thundercat will drop a 15-track album via Brainfeeder Records, including his first single "I Did This To Myself" featuring Lil Yachty.
"Got me looking like a fool/Just to get some of your attention," Thundercat croons over the funky Flying Lotus-produced beat. "Girl, what I gotta do?/Oh, you a weird chick, you like crystals and s**t/Girl, you look annoyed/Like you’ve already had enough/Do I remind you of your ex?"
"Cleared out my whole schedule/And you still act like you’re too busy," Yachty spits. "B***h, stop actin' like you got a real job/B***h, that’s not a real job/Takin' those pics in a bra shouldn’t jam your schedule."
Distracted also features fresh collaborations with A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, WILLOW, Channel Tres, and the late Mac Miller. This will be Thundercat's first album in six years. The last project he dropped was It Is What It Is in 2020. The 15-track album holds collaborations with Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil B, Zack Fox and more. It was nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. He won the award and beat other top-tier R&B acts like Jhené Aiko, Chloe x Halle, the Free Nationals, and Robert Glasper.
