A$AP Rocky is finally revealing what led up to his beef with Drake and why he chose to fire back at him.
On Saturday, January 24, Akademiks dropped his anticipated interview with A$AP Rocky, in which he speaks on his new album Don't Be Dumb. During the conversation, Ak asked Rocky why he engaged in the beef in the first place. The "Problems" rapper starts by claiming he thought he and Drake were all good until Rocky got with Rihanna.
“I thought he was my mans, I thought he was my dude," he explained. "I think when I got with my girl, he just started throwing shots out of nowhere."
ASAP Rocky and Rihanna went public back in 2020, but they had been friends and romantically involved for a lot longer. He recalled how he was still friends with Drake when he came to Yams Day that same year. Drizzy even gave him a chain inspired by the late A$AP Yams while he was there.
"That's 2020, gangsta. Me and shorty was locked in," he said. "That's where everything is subsequent after that. That's when all the shots started happening. That's where I started seeing funny s**t."
Drake initially ignited his beef with A$AP Rocky after he took some shots at him on songs like "Fear of Heights" in 2023. However, Rocky never fired back until he appeared on Future and Metro Boomin's "Show Of Hands" in 2024. “N***as in they feelings over women/What, you hurt or somethin’?" Rocky rapped. "I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son/Still don’ trust you, it’s always us, never them.” Later on in the interview, Rocky admits he should've never brought Drake's son's mother into the conversation.
“I said what I said, and I shouldn’t of because it was petty,” Rocky said. “And I was being messy by putting another woman… saying something about another woman. That’s corny.”
