Nas and DJ PREMIER are getting closer to dropping their long-awaited joint album than ever before.
Earlier this week, the Mass Appeal founder sat down with Rolling Stone to talk about a handful of topics, including his reaction to people mentioning his beef with JAY-Z after he and Resorts World NYC won a bid to build a casino in Queens. In the same interview, Nas also revealed an interesting update about his upcoming joint album with his close friend and famed producer, DJ PREMIER. He explained that some of the songs on their anticipated project were made a while ago when they first came up with the idea.
“I’m going to say at least two of those ideas happened on this album,” he said. “We didn’t get a chance to do ’em when we were talking about ’em, but we finally got a chance to put those recordings together this year.”
Nas and Preemo have been tight-lipped about the project since they confirmed its arrival earlier this year. The New York duo sparked hype for the project when they shared their previous track "Define My Name" last year to honor the 30th anniversary of Nas' debut album, Illmatic. They have yet to reveal a title and haven't shared a release date. All fans know is that it will drop as part of Mass Appeal's "Legend Has It" campaign.
“I can’t wait for people to finally hear it," Nas added. "I don’t know about anybody else, but for me and him, it was personally a long time coming for us to do it.”
Nas & DJ PREMIER's album may be the grand finale among the seven albums Mass Appeal promised to deliver. So far, the iconic record label has dropped projects by Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Slick Rick and Mobb Deep. They've also announced the release date for Big L's upcoming posthumous album and plan to share details about De La Soul's forthcoming album soon.
