An obsessed "Stan" who previously broke into Eminem's home has been convicted of home invasion and aggravated stalking.
According to the Detroit Free Press, a jury found Matthew David Hughes guilty on two counts of home invasion and aggravated stalking on Wednesday, May 7, following 30 minutes of deliberation. The "Lose Yourself" rapper appeared in court to testify against Hughes, who reportedly invaded his property twice since 2020. Hughes was arrested last August and remained in jail until his trial after he failed to post his $500,000 bail. The 32-year-old man was on parole when he was caught on Eminem's property last year.
Hughes first broke into Eminem's home in Clinton Township on April 5, 2020. Police were called to the Manchester Estates gated community at 4 a.m. after the Detroit native woke up to see Hughes standing behind him in his living room. When Eminem asked him what he was doing there, Hughes said he was there to kill the rapper.
The defendant was arrested and charged with invading Eminem's house. In September 2021, Hughes reached a plea deal and was sentenced to five years' probation. After he was arrested for assault two months later, Hughes was sent to prison, where he remained until May 2024. Hughes was released on parole and was scheduled to be fully discharged on June 19, 2026.
Hughes will be sentenced on June 17.
