NBA superstar LeBron James is set to miss out on a historic night in fashion.
On Monday (May 5), James, who was named the honorary chair for the 2025 Met Gala, announced that he would not be in attendance at the event due to his knee injury. The Los Angeles Lakers star suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee during the team's Game 5 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves last week.
"Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won't be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on! Hate to miss an historical event!" James shared on X, formerly Twitter, just hours before the Met Gala carpet.
The basketball star noted that his wife, Savannah, would still appear at the event in his place.
"My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!" James said.
James was named the honorary chair with Vogue editor Anna Wintour leading the event along with co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams.
The 2025 Met Gala theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," which will center around Black dandyism. The dress code, "Tailored for You," invites the event's star-studded guest list to interpret dandyism through tailoring, precise cuts, lush fabrics, and personal style.
