Broadway actor Brittney Johnson made history after becoming the first Black woman to be cast to play Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, in the fan favorite production of Wicked.

Johnson first made history with Wicked in 2019, when she became the first Black actor and actor of color overall to land the role of Glinda's understudy.

Now, Johnson will take over the role full time beginning February 14, the Broadway musical announced Tuesday (December 7).

"If this a dream, don't wake me," the actor tweeted. "I cannot WAIT to be your Glinda. I'm honored, grateful, and speechless. I simply couldn't be happier," she wrote.

In an interview with People, Johnson said landing the role is an "honor."

"I only had a few people who I feel like I could look up to when I was starting this journey, and it's still a little surreal for me when people send me messages and write me letters saying that I am the reason why they feel like they can pursue their dream, that I am the person that they are looking up to," she told the publication.

"It feels like an awesome responsibility and one that I am grateful for."

Before performing with Wicked, Johnson played in Motwon, Les Misérables, Sunset Boulevard, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and more, according to Playbill.
